Why Does iTunes Suck So Much?
Ok, so I know this doesn't really fall under my category of "entertainment reviews", but being a music listener, I feel justified in writing a product review.
Honestly, I don't have much to say because this is more of a rant than review, and I didn't want to post a status about it on my Facebook page. It didn't seem worth it, but I had to express my rage. I'm just really pissed at iTunes right now. Here's the story.
Someone I know has money on their iTunes account courtesy of some gift cards. They are never going to use this money, and I would like to use it since I do buy songs sometimes. However, you can't gift iTunes money once it's been claimed. You also can't gift songs to others with iTunes money (which we almost learned the hard way until I stopped myself from making the gift purchase and searched whether or not you can choose to pay for a gifted song with iTunes credit). There's no way to transfer that credit so it just sits there, completely useless. So what the fuck is the point of having iTunes money?!?!?!
And then, on top of all of this, iTunes, to, get this, "beef up their security" due to the previous security breaches that we all know about, decides to ask said person to fill in security questions. At this point, I'm already so fed up with trying to figure out how everything works and making sure the person I know doesn't actually get their credit card charged that even though this step should be easy and not painful, I wanted to punch the computer.
Truthfully, I don't understand why this pisses me off so much. I'm probably being unfair and some of this might be due to my incompetence. But downloading and sharing music should not be this complicated, especially in a day and age where we do it all the time. It's like in an effort to control everything and make sure you exclusively use iTunes, the product because annoyingly painful to use. Which in turn causes you not to use iTunes and violates the initial mission statement (where the user exclusively uses iTunes). So good job Apple. I now officially understand why all my friends hate iTunes so much. Let's try to make useful and helpful apps, shall we? There's already so much crap out there, we don't need more of it, especially not from such an established company as you. It's disgraceful. As a Mac and iPhone user, I expected so much more. I'm very disappointed in you.
