Gilmore Girls: A Year in Review

On November 25th, Netflix released Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. It was the long awaited revival of the beloved series, penned and directed by the original creator of the show who was ousted before she could finish her masterpiece. As you probably know by now, I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan, this being the third post I've written about it. It might actually be my favorite TV show of all time, and I was as excited as any millennial to get to relive my time spent in Stars Hollow. A Year in the Life was supposed to bring me happiness, nostalgia, and closure with the final four words. Instead, it brought me disappointment and a strange sense of being in the uncanny valley. The magic that once existed was gone. The storyline, once planned for a Yale graduate Rory in season 7 felt out of place. The series gave up continuity and character growth for artistic purposes, and that choice left me confused and reeling, realizing that Amy Sherman-Palladino had taken everything I know and loved about this show, this town and its residents, and destroyed it with four (but really two) stupid little words.

But before we get too far down that rabbit hole, let's back up, and I'll take you through my journey of A Year in the Life, one blog post at a time.
