Summer
Honestly I'm not sure I want to take the time to write a full blog post on Summer. It felt like mostly filler, with that 20 minute long musical sequence that was totally unnecessary. If they had wanted to put that last song in so that Lorelai felt like she had to take a trip and clear her head, they could've done that without all the other numbers. Not to mention Lorelai and Rory's rift over the book seems like just an excuse to reconcile them in the next episode.
Surprisingly, my favorite part of this episode was April (who has turned into an MIT hippie?). Her realization that Rory's life being as fucked up as it is can be taken as a wake-up call from the future. Here's hoping she picked a useful subject to major in ;)
Aside from that, I didn't get much out of Summer. I appreciated Jess being the catalyst to getting Rory's life back on track. That does feel kind of familiar doesn't it... not so different from when he convinced her to go back to Yale. Crazy to think that the hooligan Rory fell for at age 17 has now become the voice of reason in her life. And yet, it's not that hard to imagine. We knew Jess had a good side to him all along, he just needed a little help bringing it out.
I guess I'll leave you with a very stylish picture of Rory and Lorelai and their parasols. I did particularly take pleasure from the Game of Thrones references, though no offense Rory you're no Khaleesi and Nat Compton isn't nearly frightening enough to be a White Walker, but I think I'll just let this one go.
